Flagstaff Gardens is a large park area near the Victoria Market that I go to. I have never actually gone through the gardens, only along the edge on the way to the market. Apparently, it was called Flagstaff Hill because of a flagstaff that was erected to communicate between the harbor and town as it was the highest point in the settlement. Before that, it was called Burial Hill because it was a cemetery and there is now a memorial to mark the graves of the first European settlers. At some point, I will walk around the gardens to see this memorial and everything else. For today, I am posting pictures mainly because of this beautiful purple tree. I looked it up and I think it is the Jacaranda tree.
